Muhammed Alamgir is a Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh since 16 June 2019. He is a Professor of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Bangladesh since May 19, 2002. Prof. Alamgir joined as a Lecturer in September 20, 1986. He became Assistant Professor in September 23, 1990 and then promoted to Associate Professor in December 28, 1998. He became the Professor of Grade I in May 20, 2008. Prof. Alamgir successfully completed responsibilities as the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) for 2 consecutive Terms from 21 July 2010 to 02 August 2018. He also successfully completed the designated tenure as the Dean of the Faculty of CivilEngineering, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and the Provost of Residential Halls for both the Male and Female.

He obtained B.Sc. Engg.(1986) & M.Sc. Engg.(1989) degrees from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka and Ph.D. (1996) from Saga University. He was awarded JSPS Post Doctoral Fellowship for 18 months (1986-1998), NST Senior Fellowship for 1998-2000.

His research areas cover Solid Waste and Faecal Sludge Management and Geoenvironmental Engineering Problems, such as Solid waste management in the developing countries, Non-sewered sanitation, Sanitary Landfill, Composting, Soft Soil Characterization, Ground Improvement, Foundation in Soft Soil and Sub-soil Exploration. He successfully completed several research projects funded Government of Bangladesh and European Commission under its Asia Link, Asia Pro Eco I & II, DAAD and 7 th Frame Work Programme. He was core member of a Faecal Sludge Management Project of SNV in Khulna funded by BMGF. He was the National Specialist in SWM project of ADB in 2009 & 2010. He is working with Padova University under Erasmus+ program. He was the Program Coordinator of GSGS (Global Sanitation Graduate School) program in KUET to offer M.Sc. /Diploma/Short course in sanitation. He is also the Chair of WasteSafe International Conference, occurred in every odd year in Khulna since 2009. The next WasteSafe Conference 2021 will be held on 27~28 February 2021. He is also very active in supervising post-graduate students. So far 26 students successfully completed post-graduate thesis under his supervision including 2 Ph.D.

About 240 technical papers written by him were published in conference and journal proceedings. He edited five Seminar proceeding, two regional & one national workshop Handouts on Geoenvironmental Engg. and Solid Waste Management, One Book on Feasibility study on MSW management in LDACs and Six proceedings of International Conference. Prof. Alamgir visited 26 countries for research and professional works. He is the life fellow of IEB and BAAS. Prof. Alamgir is the Guest Editor of Intl. J. of Waste Management, IWWG, Member of Editorial Advisory Board of the Detritus Journal, IWWG and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Engineering Science. He was born in 1963.
